How Social Media has Affected Me

Social media has affected my life both personally and professionally. Social media has kept me in contact with many childhood friends, co workers, and family members I otherwise would have lost communication with. Thanks to social media I can see how peoples families are doing, what they’ve been up to, and how their lives have changed. Social media has kept me in the loop. I have been able to meet up with and hang out with old friends as well thanks to social media.

Professionally social media hasn’t really affected my life much. I have used social media to connect with people I have met at work, but for the most part it has been socially. I would eventually like to use social media as a platform to launch a business or gain business contacts. I have a linkedin account, but have not used it much. I know linkedin is a huge social media resource professionally, not only for making contacts, but also for finding jobs. I have noticed potential employers checking out my linkedin profile so that alone shows the importance of social media as a professional resource.

I have made connections with people who live across the country and I would normally have never met, and made great friends this way. I have even been able to travel and meet people I never would have otherwise known. There are many fitness models, and music professionals I am in regular contact with due to social media. If not for social media my music would not be on the fitness youtube pages of some of the best fitness models. This hasn’t given me much professionally other than the satisfaction of knowing my music is out there, but it would not have happened without social media.

Facebook and Instagram have also gotten me many new friends I otherwise would not have met. There are people who I attend college with that I met up with and became study buddies with thanks to social media. Social media has also changed the way I get world and local news. I’ve noticed that I find out and learn more about local and world news via social media faster than any other sort of communication. I am very much into sports and science as well, and social media has put me at my game in knowing the latest sports and m I create and write music, as well as sing. Twitter, Instagram, facebook, and soundcloud have all done a great deal to get my music out to the public, and I have a song that has over 1000 plays currently. I have even been tweeted by a grammy winning artist who praised my rendition of Tears On My Pillow. If it wasn’t for social media, none of the many people who have heard my music ever would have.

Therefore social media has had a much larger impact on me personally than professionally. Personally it has connected me with many old friends, and helped me make many new friends. Professionally it has got my music to an audience I’d otherwise not have and helped me connect with people of influence.

Andrew who? Happy retirement Mr. Luck. Jacoby’s era has begun in Indianapolis.

Andrew who? Happy retirement Mr. Luck, you earned it. Jacoby’s era has just begun in Indianapolis.

The Colts triumph over the Falcons this past weekend is greatly highlighted in a web video for all to see. This web video shows all of the highlights of Jacoby Brissett’s breakout game. When Andrew Luck went down everyone thought the Colts season was over, but that is far from the case. The Colts are now sitting pretty at 2-1 under the strong accurate arm of Jacoby Brissett. In fact if it was not for Vinatieri’s mishaps in week 1 at Los Angeles the Indianapolis would be a cool perfect 3-0.

This Week 3 victory for the Colts over the Falcons was pure supremacy in the first half. The Colts lead 20-3 and it appeared this would be a home game blowout for Indianapolis to run away with. Jacoby Brissett was near perfect in the first half. The Falcons rallied back to make it a game in the third quarter, but under the brave and ballsy play calling of Frank Reich, ,the Colts kept the ball and the lead finishing the game in the fourth quarter. Finishing in the fourth quarter is something Indianapolis has struggled with in the past, but it seems that 2nd year coach Frank Reich has solved that problem.

Jacoby Brissett looked like a franchise quarterback throwing for 310 Yards, 28/37 Completions/Attempts, 2 touchdowns, 0 interceptions and a fantastic quarterback rating of 118.1.

One issue of worry about this past game is with T.Y. Hilton in the game the Colt’s passing game was unstoppable. Once T.Y. Hilton went out with a hamstring injury it really hurt the passing attack. The Colt’s receiving core has to improve greatly if they have any post season plans. If T.Y. misses any significant time, the running game will have to put the team on its back offensively.

Adam Vinatieri single handedly lost the Colts week 1 game against the LA Chargers, and almost cost them the game in week 2 with multiple chip shot field goals missed. This past game against the Atlanta Falcons Vinatieri redeemed himself by having a perfect day kicking. Vinatieri’s first field goal hit the upright and went in, and it appears that his confidence has been restored along with the good kick. As long as he is back to his near perfect ways I see good things in the Colts future, if not it may be time to hang up the cleats for this wily old vet.

The Colt’s linebacking core and secondary has looked weak these past 3 weeks. The front defensive line has taken care of business, putting constant pressure on Quarterbacks, but the secondary has been horrific. The Colts defense is allowing almost 80% of passes to be completed against opposing Quarterbacks and a 115.4 passer rating for the Quarterbacks they’ve played against. The secondary has to get its act together if the team has any postseason dreams.

Speaking of the postseason the Colts look like a surefire contender after defeating 2 tough teams, and narrowly losing due to special teams in their opener. When T.Y. Hilton, Darius Leonard, and Jabaal Sheard all return healthy, the Colts will once again be the Kings of the AFC South. Andrew who?

Web videos are very important in this age of digital media. In particular web videos showing game recaps in sports are among the most important. Many people either have to work or do not have the time to watch an entire sports game, so game highlights and recaps are a great way to see the game. The NFL in particular has a great system for this, not only displaying the games on their website, but also all game highlights on YouTube as well.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare beta review – I’m Hype! It’s Lit!

Image result for call of duty modern warfare beta

In this age of digital communication it is hard to not notice the buzz generated around the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remake by Infinity Ward. Through word of mouth of Instagram, YouTube, twitter and Facebook this game has been hyped beyond all measure. So of course I had to get my hands on a beta code and try it out for myself. This past weekend I got a full hands on experience of the game, which is set to release in for full retail on October 25, 2019.

This game so far is everything I could ever dream plus more. Right off the bat I could tell that the famous Call of Duty engine, which hasn’t been updated since 2007, has FINALLY been updated. The textures, death animations, and physics are all much better than any game in the history of the series. Another thing that was noticeable early is quick scoping is FINALLY GONE! I repeat, QUICK SCOPING IS GONE! For those that don’t know that quick scoping is, just know it’s been one of the most annoying things in gaming for the past 10 years and no one will miss it.

The beta did not allow me to choose which match type I wanted on day one which was slightly irritating, but with how great the gameplay was I didn’t mind too much. One launch day for the Modern Warfare beta the game randomly put you in Team Death Match, Domination, TDM 20, or domination 20. People must have complained about this because an update was later put out that let you pick what match type you wanted. New game modes include Realism Mode, which mimics real life gun battle. It’s even more hardcore than classic hardcore mode so I can see it being a new quick fan favorite. NVG mode where the battles play out at night in total darkness.

Done away with is the old style of picking perks, weapons and attachments. The new style of customization is a welcome change and allows you to completely alter your gun from the muzzle, laser, under barrel, and attachments. The new gunsmith mode looks like it will be a great addition to spice things up that have become stale over the years in the Call of Duty world. There are old and new perks as well as kill streaks. Kill streaks work just as they always have: kill multiple people without dying, earn big bomb or reward to murder more said people. The weapon selection is a very nice group of real world weapons, and gone are the wacky make believe weapons of the past decade of games.

I tested the beta on both Xbox One X, and PS4. The game held a steady 60fps on both systems, and looked gorgeous on both systems. Although of course the Xbox One X wins in the graphics department as it does with just about every multiplatform game due to its power. The game plays fast, and furious. The recoil on the weapons feels much more intense and realistic making firefights feel tense with edge of your seat action. Grenades make their triumphant return, and should NEVER have been one. Hey Activision can you do us a favor and NEVER MAKE A CALL OF DUTY WITHOUT GRENADES AGAIN? K thank.

You can now aim via laser or through the sites giving some variety in your weapons. You can peak around corners, out of windows, over ledges and mount your gun on the side of objects for cover. This makes really cool tactical scenarios that a team of great players can take advantage of flash clearing rooms. A new feature has also been added to allow the choice of ammunition that can be loaded into your weapon. Upping stopping power and slowing fire rate, or lowering stopping power and speeding pu the fire rate. With all of this customization in just the limited beta, I can’t wait to see the plethora of goodies in store for us in the full game. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare also features cross platform play that allows you to play with gamers on any system: PS4, PC, or Xbox. This is the first game of its kind that I know of. You have the choice to leave this on or turn it off, but it’s a great way to be able to play with friends even if you own different systems, and should be the standard for online gaming in the future.  This beta goes public for everyone to play this Saturday so SUIT UP OR SHUT UP! LET’S DO THIS! Call of Duty is finally back baby!

More than three takeaways from IU Football’s Media Monday in preparation for Ohio State.

Will this year finally be the year for a victory?

William Coleman of the Indiana Daily Student “https://www.idsnews.com/article/2019/09/three-takeaways-from-iu-footballs-media-monday” wrote that that there were there takeaways from IU football’s Media Monday. While there were three huge takeaways such as the O-Line having its biggest test yet, Maintaining Ohio State’s speed, and IU finished off late in the last two meetings against the school, I believe there are more than that.

Indiana University just had the team’s largest margin of victory in football program history last week over Eastern Illinois University. The score of that game was 52-0. The team they did this against was an FCS team though however, and this upcoming Saturday IU plays Ohio State. Ohio State is ranked No. 6th in the country, so to compare Eastern Illinois University to Ohio State is downright insanity. I do agree that IU’s O-Line is in for its biggest test. Ohio State knows how to get to the quarterback and IU’s starting redshirt freshman Michael Penix Jr will not come out of this upcoming game unscathed.

IU has not allowed a sack yet this season, but I believe that will all change this Saturday and IU should be prepared to get rid of the ball quickly or mix in the run more to counter Ohio State’s pass rush. Ohio State has pro football level players on its defense and I agree with Coleman that blocking Penix’s blind side will be crucial for protecting the young Quarterback.

An extra point that should have been added is the missed tackles being cleaned up, but it was barely touched in the article. IU had a plethora of missed tackles against Ball State, and had an inexcusable amount against EIU as well. EIU is an FCS team, and tackles should not be missed playing a team of that caliber.

Coleman discusses his second point as “Maintaining OSU’s speed will be a focal point for IU’s defense.”

This is a point I agree with and think is very important if IU wants to get the victory over Ohio State. Ohio State has so much talent on offense I am not sure if IU’s defense will be able to handle it all. Fields and Dobbins of Ohio State are a powerhouse in the running game, and I agree that stopping them and slowing down Ohio State’s offense is and should be a focal point for IU’s defense. IU’s defense is indeed aggressive, but will it be enough against Ohio State’s offense? The past has proven otherwise, but Coleman appears to believe if IU shows a full effort we may be able to slow them down. I believe that the only way we will beat Ohio State will be to score on offense every single possession. IU’s defense just doesn’t have what it takes to shut down Ohio States elite offense. IU’s only hope will be to outscore Ohio State if they have any hope for victory.

The third takeaway Coleman mentions is “IU finished off late in the last two OSU meetings.” I am not sure why he would only mention the last two meetings. Indiana is finished off by Ohio State every single year. I’ve been a Hoosier football fan for as long as I remember and I can’t remember IU ever beating Ohio State. There is a good reason why, Indiana hasn’t beaten the Buckeyes since 1988. In fact Indiana hasn’t even kept Ohio State to a single digit victory since 1994. So I am not sure why only the last two games are mentioned. Indiana desperately needs a win over Ohio State. The Buckeyes are not an invincible team. Purdue, whose football team is comparable to Indiana’s, was able to dismantle Ohio State last year.

Coleman goes on to state that IU’s newfound depth across the field could help stay afloat against a powerhouse like Ohio State, but that is hopeful thinking. It has been over two decades since Indiana has defeated Ohio State. While I would certainly love to see this happen this upcoming Saturday I highly doubt it will. IU will have to figure out a way to either outscore or somehow shut down Ohio State’s offense. While I do agree that the Hoosier did hang in there with Ohio State the last two seasons keeping both games close in the first half, the second half was a nightmare for Indiana.

There were many more than three takeaways from IU football’s Media Monday in regards to the matchup against Ohio State. This is an important test for the Hoosiers, but alas one they have failed for over two decades. I will most likely have grandchildren by the time I am finally alive to witness Indiana beat Ohio State. Go Hoosiers!

Social Media and Digital PR Thoughts

I personally love social media and digital PR. Social media has been a major part of my life since 2008, and has grown more and more important to me as time has gone on.

I am very much into sports and science as well, and social media has put me at my  game in knowing the latest sports and medical trends.

I create and write music, as well as sing.

Digital PR has helped many businesses reach out to people they normally couldn’t reach. I’ve used it so far to spread my music. I will continue to use it to try and grow an audience for my music and video game reviews. I have always been deeply into gaming, video game culture, and video game related things since I was a child. Social media has taken over the video game world by storm. Youtube, twitter and Instagram are where most video game news comes out first. Twitch streaming has become a staple in the video game world, and without it you’ll be hard pressed to be a known entity as a gamer. Even big time game companies like Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, etc use social media to stream their press conferences and all of their latest releases. Whenever a new game system or new video game is going to come out social media is the first place gamers turn to for this information.

I’m a huge fan of sports, and social media and digital PR have also been taken over by storm. Even though I am mostly a gamer and musician, I still use social media a lot to spread sports news about local Indiana teams, as well as major sports developments nationally. During the Olympics sports that were not shown on TV I watched via facebook or youtube and it was just as good as seeing it on TV. In fact it may have been better because the live feed gave people a way to talk to and communicate with each other while watching the sport of their choice.  Watching sports is great, but watching it while being able to communicate with other people who are also watching it is greater.

During the last Manny Pacquio fight I watched the fight on TV while streaming a live chat for anyone who wanted to join. Thousands of people joined in on the chat from all over the world and we had a great time communicating during the fight. Having fans of the sport enjoy it with you is always better than watching alone. Sports are a social trend humans have watched and participated since the beginning of time, and what better platform to share this on than social media?

Speaking of Manny Pacquio he just launched his own crypto currency, which of course is being backed by social media and Digital PR. His new cryto currency is completely fan backed, and will allow fans to purchase and interact with Pacquio via what else but social media. This new wave is most likely going to be used by more and more celebrities and athletes to spread their own wealth and influence on social media. I think its brilliant and would love to somehow get involved in such a new trend. Staying ahead of the curve is important in this digital age, if you lag behind you’ll get left behind.

Digital PR and Social Media have an endless torrent of potential, from marketing, to connecting with people for entertainment. There are even ways to watch movies online via social media and interact with people or loved ones while watching it. Skype, cisco, and LinkedIn have also changed even how corporations communicate. I have worked at multibillion dollar hospital corporations, to small churches as an IT professional, and at both I’ve seen Skype, MS Teams, cisco applications and many more social media inspired ways to communicate, instead of the typical office setting. I believe this trend will continue, and eventually cubicles will be a thing of the past. People will simply work from home in their home office, and communicate and meet virtually only seeing each other when a major event or meeting happens.

This new digital age is great, but I think we have to remember to see people and interact with them in person as well. If we get too caught up in staying home, staying indoors, and not exploring the world around us, that can be a far worse reality than having the world at the fingertips of your phone.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
